Allured Award – New Composers Initiative

The Donald E. Allured Original Composition Award is pleased to announce a new initiative for the creation of handbell music.  In partnership with the Handbell Musicians of America, the Allured Award will identify and support new talent seeking to break into the world of handbell music.  Recipients of this New Composers Initiative will receive both a cash fee for the composition and also one-on-one mentoring with an established composer to learn the ins-and-outs of the handbell publishing business and how to make their compositions marketable.  The composition resulting from the Initiative will be published by AGEHR Music and premiered at a prominent HMA sponsored event.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant should have no more than two handbell compositions accepted by an established handbell publishing house.
  • Applicant must have the musical expertise and compositional skills necessary to produce an original work meeting the standards expected of work at a major Handbell Musicians of America event.
